Letter from John Brown (Frankfort, KY) to Samuel Brown (New Haven, CT). This is a letter of introduction and recommendation for Landon Thomas, a friend of Brown's sons. Landon is moving to Farmington to prepare himself to enter college at New Haven or Princeton.
Frankfort 5th October 1818.
The Bearer Landon Thomas sets out for the State of Connecticut with the intention of spending some time at Farmington to prepare himself to enter College at N. Haven or Princeton. As he will have no acquaintance in that quarter of the Country except Mason Brown I have offered him this letter of introduction to your friendly notice. He has long been the companion & schoolmate of my Sons who are much attached to him & having grown up under my eye I can with much cheerfulness bear testimony to his merit, & do recommend him to your attentions as a youth of amiable disposition, correct habits & fair reputation. Your advice & assistance may be of much importance to him & will be thankfully received. Any services you may render to him will be esteemed by me as favors conferred upon myself, & will be gratefully acknowledged by his family & connections who are very respectable & with some of whom you have long been acquainted.
I refer you to Mr. Thomas for the news of this place & am with sentiments of affection & esteem
