|Title||Frank, Part II|
This book was owned by Orlando Brown and then Euphemia Brown. In Margaretta's hand, the second page reads: "Orlando Brown from his affectionate mother. M. Brown" and "Euphemia H. Brown's 1814". There is another signature of Orlando's name at the first page of the novel, in Margaretta's hand. Euphemia signed the book on page 5. Written in pencil on the pastedown at the beginning of the book, it reads "Commenced 2nd, April" and at the end of the novel it reads in pencil "finished 13th April, 1812." Presumably, the 11-year-old Orlando read this book in April of 1812.
Frank, Part II is a 113-page juvenile novel. With encouragement from her father, Richard Lovell Edgeworth, Maria Edgeworth (1768-1849) wrote a string of books aimed at children as well as novels for adults. This children's book is small in size to be held in the hand, but the print is sort of large, which would appeal to a child.
