Portrait of John Brown (1757-1837) in profile, wearing a periwig. He is wearing a blue jacket and white shirt. The background is blue and gray. The portrait is in a gilt frame. Brown was serving as a U.S. Senator from Kentucky when this portrait was painted.
On the verso of the frame at the top right, it reads, "painted by J. Sharples in the Year 1796 (or 7)." There is a signature on one of the boards in the back that is possibly Sharples' signature.
