Title |
1880 or 1884? Mary Mason Scott to Mary Yoder Brown Scott |
Scope & Content |
Undated letter from Mary Mason Scott to her mother Mary Yoder Brown Scott. Mary Mason is writing from New York where she is attending Madame Mear's French school. She writes of her mother getting her clothing items. [This letter could be from 1884, as there is another dated letter in the collection from Nov. 1884 when she was at Madame Mears] [Transcription] Friday My dear Mama Cousin Emma went with me yesterday to the dressmakers and she says that she can make my dress fit but she can't alter it until next week. You need not worry about my not being warm enough. My cloak is as warm as a sealskin and my shoes are warm also. They are not one bit too heavy now that the cold weather has come and they do for the house as well as the street. I think the season that I had chilblains last winter is because I have worn such thin shoes in winter. These shoes have never hurt me the least bit and fit delightfully. My feet are never cold at night now and the cover never slips off me. My old blue cloth does delightfully for walking and looks very fresh. As my shoes do so well for the house now, I will not have another pair made. You had better send some more money for me to Madame as my ten dollars are almost gone. I am careful with my money but it seems to fly. You forgot to send me my other flannel shirt from Lexington- Where did you get my flannel drawers was it at Macy's The last pair you got were shorter in the legs and I want to change them Saturday morning Madame has just gotten your letter & the check which she says that she will read to me after while. It is now twelve o'clock and we go to the matinee to hear Patti at one. So I will have to stop. now, but will write you to-night - what I think of her. With oh so much love for all MMS After I come from the matinee I am going to Cousin Emma's to stay until bed time. |
