Inscriptions: Poem written by Margaretta Brown (under engraving); "Margaretta Brown, Frankfort, KY" (on Contents page); and "Margaretta Brown" (on Memoirs page) On the first page of this 358-page book, there is a portrait of Mrs. Bleecker by Tiebout, Cornelius, ca. 1773-1832, engraver, under which Margaretta Mason Brown wrote a poem. The poem is signed "A." The poem also appears in Margaretta Brown's poetry journal (2012.01.0036). In her journal it is titled: "Lines, written beneath the picture of Mrs. Ann Eliza Bleecker, which is prefixed to the writings of that lady. Decr. 22nd, 1793" The title page is missing. The contents of this book include: Memoirs of Ann Eliza Bleecker, By Mrs. Bleecker: The History of Maria Kittle, The Story of Henry and Anne, 23 letters, and 36 poems. The second half of the book is poetry by Margaretta Faugeres, essays and poems. |
