The Rose Garden Oil |
Description |
Oil painting of the garden and grounds at Liberty Hall. The attic window of Liberty Hall is depicted (in the upper left-hand corner of the painting). The painting shows a garden path behind Liberty Hall with shrubs, trees, roses, and red poppies (in the forefront to the right) visible. Painting is framed in gilt gesso frame. Sawyier began painting more frequently with oil (vs. watercolor) when he moved to New York in 1913, and it is possible that he painted this scene from a photograph while in New York. |
