Description |
Portrait of Mason Brown as middle-aged man. He is wearing dark suit. Portrait may be depiction of Mason in Brooks Brothers suit he purchased in 1820s. Frame is gold gilt gesso on wood. Chester Harding came to Paris, Kentucky from Massachusetts around 1818 and painted several portraits at that time. Harding lived in Paris from 1818-1821. He painted Daniel Boone, Henry Clay, among other notable people. Moved back East (to MA) in 1826. Maintained a studio in Boston through 1846. Returned to KY to paint in 1828 and 1833 and as a visitor to a friend's home in Paris in 1834, 1838, 1842. |
