John Preston Watts Brown (1815-1850) was the son of Preston Brown. Preston is John Brown's brother. Also, Mary Watts Brown was his sister. Mary married Orlando. John was a first cousin to Mason and Orlando and also a brother-in-law to Orlando. John Preston Watts Brown was born in Woodford County, KY and lived in Liberty Hall for a time when he was a young child. His father, Preston, had a home built in Frankfort and while the home was being built, his family resided at Liberty Hall. John was tutored by Kean O'Hara in 1826. In that same year, when John was 11 years old, his father was murdered in Louisville. I believe John Brown took him under his wing at this time and arranged for him to attend college at Oxford College in Ohio (now Miami University). John P.W. Brown became a doctor and at some point moved to Tennessee. His mother and two of his sisters also resided in Tennessee. He married Jane R. Nichol in 1837. He died in 1850 at age 34 of illness. |
