Mary Yoder is the second wife of Mason Brown. They married in 1835. Mary Yoder was a high-style woman from a wealthy family. Mary was the daughter of Jacob and Mary Mossman Yoder. Jacob Yoder invented the flatboat and profited from its use, transporting goods to market via the Mississippi and Ohio rivers. He built a large mansion in Spencer County, Kentucky that he called "Beechland." The home was renamed "Vaucluse" by Yoder’s son-in-law, Frenchman David Rozel Poignand, who married Mary Yoder's sister, Eliza. Mary and Mason had six children together: John Mason, Margaretta Mason, Mary Yoder, Yoder, Eliza Eloise, and Knox. |
