Notes |
A landscape painter and a poet, Robert Burns Wilson is best-known for his Kentucky landscapes. Originally from Pennsylvania, Wilson began painting in 1869 and moved to Frankfort in 1875, where he lived for nearly thirty years. Wilson's paintings and poetry express his romantic sensibilities where nature's forces and seasonal changes are prominent themes. Robert Burns Wilson was a close friend of Mary Mason "Mame" Scott, the last Brown family resident of Liberty Hall. Several of Wilson's paintings, poetry books, and original manuscripts (including four sonnets given to Mame on her birthday) are in the Liberty Hall collection. |
